Installing VP Backup

You KNOW that backing up your system files is mandatory... VP Backup Service makes it EASY!  Eliminate worries as your system data is automatically transferred to the local or off-site backup destination of your choice.  VP Backup Service allows you to determine the location and scheduling of your backups, so that they are as convenient as possible for you. In addition, you may register with us and, for a fee, store your data safely off-site with our recommended FTP hosting service.

VP Backup is not automatically installed when ViewPoint is installed. To use VP Backup you must install it from the ViewPoint CD-ROM. Be sure to install it on your ViewPoint server. To install the VP Backup Service:

  1. Insert the installation CD and in the drive, and navigate to the \VP Backup folder on the CD.
  2. Double-click the Setup icon.
  3. If Microsoft .Net Framework is not already installed on this machine, read the End User License Agreement which appears. You may scroll through the agreement on your screen, or click [Click to View EULA for Printing] to print and review the agreement. When you have finished, click [Accept] to accept the license agreement and continue installing the backup service. (If you instead click [Don't Accept], the installation process is cancelled.)  Please wait. The initial portion of the installation may take a few minutes.
  4. The ViewPoint Backup Service Setup Wizard appears.
    1. Click [Next >] to continue with the Setup Wizard.
    2. Select the folder where you want your backup service installed. Typically this is C:\Program Files\Ortho2\ViewPoint Backup Service\ or something similar. To help you decide where to install the system, you may click [Disk Cost…] to view the amount of space you have available on your computer drives and how much space it will take to install the VP Backup Service. When you have finished reviewing the Disk Cost information click [OK] to continue. Then, if necessary, click [Browse…] to select a different location for the installation.
    3. Choose whether the VP Backup Service application will be available to Just Me or Everyone who uses this computer. This controls whether the service can be accessed and changed from just the Windows profile you are currently logged in under or from all Windows profiles. Either is acceptable because you do not need to be logged into Windows at all for VP Backup to run.
    4. When you are satisfied with your choices so far, click [Next>] to continue.
  5. Click [Next>] on the Confirm Installation screen..
  6. Click [Close] to exit after the installation has finished.

Note: Should you need to remove VP Backup Service from your system, double-click the Setup icon on the CD, select Remove ViewPoint Backup Service, and click [Finish].

Once VP Backup is successfully installed, you may choose to sign up for our FTP Hosting Service, and Set up your automatic backup functions.
