Post Miscellaneous Charges

Use the Enter Charge option of the Post Transaction window to post miscellaneous charges that are in addition to the patient's contract, and add to your total production. (Non-production charges, such as courtesy discounts and write-offs, should be posted as adjustments instead. See "Post Non-Production Charge Adjustments" for details.)

Use This Feature

  1. Click to OpenOpen the Post Transaction Window - You can open this feature in multiple ways: Use the method that's most convenient for you. If a patient record is already active, that patient's information will be loaded automatically. Otherwise, you use Fast Find (either typing information or swiping a registered reward card) to search for the patient to work with.

  2. Click to OpenSelect Patient and Billing Party - Choose the account to work with. If needed, you can to launch Fast Find and choose a different patient. If the patient has multiple responsible parties and / or contracts, select the account holder and contract to use. Insurance contracts are listed directly below the associated subscriber, and include responsible party's name in the Subscriber column.

  1. Click to OpenEnable Post Charge Mode - Click Enter Charges to begin posting miscellaneous charges.

  2. Click to OpenCharge Details - Enter the charge date and amount, then choose a charge description from your list, or type a unique description.

  3. Post the Transaction - Click Post.ViewPoint calculates the new account balance and amount due, and asks you to confirm the transaction. Click Yes to complete the process, or click No to exit without posting the transaction.

More Information

Alert Stop - If the patient has an alert trigger enabled for this feature, the Alert Stop pop-up window will appear when you initiate this feature for the patient. Review the alert information, then either press Enter on your keyboard, or click the box to continue. You can also click the Edit link to open the Alert editor for that patient.

Click to OpenViewPoint Videos - Click the Video button from the post transactions window to find topic-specific video assistance. See "ViewPoint Videos" for details.

Last Posted Transaction - The last transaction you posted appears at the left of the post transactions window for your reference. This helps prevent duplicate posting errors.

Charge Groups - Although you post a charge group as a single transaction, the individual charges will appear in the patient's ledger and on your Transaction Report.

Charge Subgroups - You can also post miscellaneous charges to a subgroup of parties. See "Miscellaneous Charge Subgroups" for details.

OOPS - If you post a miscellaneous charge in error, you must reverse it properly to preserve the integrity of your accounting audit system.

Automate Posting Charges - Use the Charge to Post auto-event to initiate posting a specific miscellaneous charge for the patient whenever the activity is triggered by an appointment procedureSee "Appointment Procedure Table" for details.

Ledger - Click the Ledger button at the bottom of the Post Transaction window, or press Alt+L on your keyboard, to go to the patient's financial ledger.See "Patient Ledger" for details.

Notepad - Click the Notepad button at the bottom of the Post Transaction window, or press Alt-N on your keyboard, to go to the patient's notepad. See "Patient Notepad" for details.

Select a Different Patient - Click Fast Find at the bottom of the Post Transaction window to select a different patient to work with. This way, you can easily post a series of transactions.
