Use the Family tab of the patient folder to review and assign family relationships among your patients, responsible parties, and non-patient family members.
Watch video tutorial. (Windows Media Player, an active Internet connection, and a valid Ortho2 customer login are required to run video tutorials, webinars, and training programs.)
Open patient folder > Family tab. (See "Open Patient Folders" for details.)
Family tree - The left side of the window shows the patients, responsible parties, contracts, and insurance detail records associated with this patient.
Identify relationship - The icon beside each name indicates the relationship between that record and the patient. You can click to expand or
to collapse
the icons to display more or less information about the family structure.

assigned to the same family that do not (yet) have ViewPoint patient folders.
The birthdate
is included so you know how old the sibling is.
Open another patient - Click a patient name in the family tree, then click Open folder to open that patient's folder. Your currently active patient folder remains open as well. Use the Windows feature of your ViewPoint shortcut menu to re-arrange open windows. Click here for details...
Family assignment - Patients are assigned to a family as you create the patient folder. If needed, you can edit and reassign the patient later, from the Family tab of the patient folder. (See "Create a New Patient Folder" for details.)
Family name / address - The family name and address fields are shared by all patients assigned to this family. If you change one of these fields (for example, to correct a spelling error), the fields on all associated patient folder Family tabs are updated as well. If a patient is assigned to the wrong family, do not change the family name field. Instead, use the Reassign Family button from the Family tab of the patient folder.
Reassign family - If a patient is assigned to the wrong family, click Reassign Family. Then use Fast Find to locate the correct family. If needed, you can click New to create a new family record. See "Family Records" for details.
Siblings - Sibling records identify your patients' family members that are not patients in your practice. This helps you identify potential patients, and easily create patient folders for the siblings when the time comes to start treatment. In addition, you can locate siblings with Quick Search! See "Quick Search" for details
Create a new sibling record - Type new sibling information in the appropriate fields and click Add Sibling. You will see the sibling name added to the family tree in the left side of the window.
Review / edit a sibling record - Select a sibling name in the family tree. That sibling's information appears in the sibling fields at the right of the window. You can change any information as needed, then click Save Sibling to save it.
Make a patient folder for a sibling - Click a sibling name in the family tree, then click Make patient to create a patient folder for that sibling, automatically assigned to the same family. You can then select which responsible party and/or insurance detail records to copy to the new folder.
Delete a sibling record - Click a sibling name in the family tree, then click Delete Sibling to remove the record from ViewPoint. You might need to delete a sibling, for example, if you create a sibling patient record from scratch. However, if you use the Make patient feature, described above, the sibling record is converted to a patient folder, and you do not have to delete it.
Create patient from responsible party record - Click a responsible party name on the Family tab of a patient folder, then click Make patient to create a patient folder for that responsible party, automatically assigned to the same family. You can then select which responsible party and/or insurance detail records to copy to the new folder.
Go to Previous / Next Patient While viewing any tab of a patient folder, you can click <--
Previous and -->Next on the ViewPoint toolbar to navigate to the prior or next patient, alphabetically by last name.
Simultaneous Access - You may open multiple patient folders simultaneously, and multiple users may open the same patient folder simultaneously. However, multiple users cannot change the same field in the same patient folder at the same time.
Resize the Window - Hover your cursor at a corner of the patient folder window, then click and drag to the desired size. ViewPoint remembers you preferred size, even after you exit and re-enter the patient folder. Click for more...
Sibling reports - You may keep track of the siblings in your practice with the Family-Sibling Count report. See "Family-Sibling Count" for details.
