Set Up Security Access

Security groups determine the level of access an operator has for launching ViewPoint features, as well as viewing and changing data.

How to Get Here

Click to OpenOpen User Accounts Window - ViewPoint main menu > Tools & Utilities > Edit User Accounts.

Choose Your Settings

Click to OpenChoose Existing Record to Work With - Open the Groups tab at the top of the window.Your list of existing groups appears at the left. Click the group to work with. The details for that group appear at the right.

Click to OpenCreate New Security Group - Click Add Group. Enter a brief name, and a description of the purpose of the group, and click Apply.

Click to OpenEdit Name and Description - Select a security group from the list at the left. If you have just created a new group, it is selected automatically. You can then edit the group name and description as needed.

Click to OpenAssign Members - Open the Members window for the selected security group. The list at the right of the window includes users already assigned to this group. The list at the left shows you users that have not yet been assigned to a group. Select the user you want to work with, then click Add> or <Remove to include / exclude that user from the group.

In order to move a user from one group to another, you must first remove the user from his or her current group,

Click to OpenDefine Rights - Security rights are assigned to group of employees on a feature-by-feature basis. To assign access, open the Rights window of the selected security group. Select the category to work with, and choose an option within that category. You can then set the level of access for the selected option.

Save Your Changes - When finished, click Apply to save your changes, then click Close to exit.

More Information

New Security Group Access - When you first create a security group, all rights are set to No Access, which is not very useful! We suggest you set aside some time to go through each security category and its associated options to be sure each level is set correctly.
